Google Business Profile Optimization Checklist for Pakistan (2026)

Google Business Profile optimization checklist: 12 steps for Pakistani businesses

A complete, accurate Google Business Profile is the single biggest thing a local business in Pakistan can do to show up on Google Maps and in “near me” searches. This checklist walks through every section of your profile, in the order you’ll see it in the editor, with what to fill in and the mistakes to avoid.

We used this exact checklist on our own profile in October 2026, and we share what we found along the way. For the bigger picture (website, citations and reviews), read our local SEO guide for Pakistani businesses.

Before You Start

  • Make sure you own and have verified the profile. Search your business name on Google; if you manage it, you’ll see “You manage this Business Profile”.
  • Decide on one exact format for your business name, area and phone number, and use it everywhere (your website, social pages and directories).
  • Keep a few real photos ready: your logo, your work, your team. Avoid stock images.

1. Business Name

Use your business’s real-world name exactly as it appears on your signboard, website and documents. Adding keywords or a city (“SEO Prime Services – Best SEO Lahore”) breaks Google’s guidelines and is one of the most common reasons profiles get suspended.

2. Categories

Categories are among the strongest relevance signals on your profile.

  • Primary category: the one that best describes your main business. Choose it carefully; this is what Google relies on most.
  • Secondary categories: add every other category that genuinely describes what you do.
  • Start typing and select from the dropdown. Google only accepts categories from its own list; anything else shows “We didn’t understand your category”.

What we found: there is no “SEO agency”, “Search Engine Optimisation” or “Social media agency” category. For a digital agency, the useful options were Web Designer, Internet marketing service, Marketing agency, Advertising agency and Marketing consultant. If your exact category doesn’t exist, choose the closest ones and describe the rest in your Services and Description.

3. Description

You get 750 characters. Use them to say:

  • what you do (your main services),
  • where you work (city or areas served),
  • who you help,
  • and how to contact you.

Write naturally, the way you’d explain your business to a customer. Don’t paste lists of keywords, and don’t include links or prices; Google may reject those.

Example structure: “[Business] is a [city]-based [type of business] helping [customers] with [service 1], [service 2] and [service 3]. We [what makes you useful]. Contact us on WhatsApp or phone for a quote.”

4. Location or Service Area

Choose one of two setups:

  • Customers visit you (shop, clinic, office): show your address and place the map pin exactly on your entrance.
  • You visit customers or work online (agencies, freelancers, home services): hide your address and set a service area, such as “Lahore, Pakistan”. This is called a service-area business.

Never list an address you don’t actually operate from, such as a virtual office, just to rank in a certain area.

5. Hours

  • Set your real opening hours for each day.
  • Add special hours for Eid, public holidays and other closures, so customers don’t call when you’re closed.
  • If you also serve customers online, consider adding online operating hours.

6. Contact Details

  • Phone: use a number customers can actually reach, in the same format as on your website.
  • WhatsApp chat: add it. In Pakistan, many customers prefer to message rather than call.
  • Website: add UTM parameters so you can see profile visits in Google Analytics, for example:
    https://yourwebsite.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp
  • Social profiles: link your Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages.

7. Services

This is the section most businesses skip, and one of the most useful. For each category, add every service you offer:

  • Name: what customers call it (“Website Maintenance”, “Local SEO”).
  • Description: up to 300 characters on what’s included and who it’s for.
  • Price: add it only if it matches your website. If prices differ between your profile and your website, customers lose trust.

What we found: our profile listed prices that no longer matched our website’s pricing page. Five of the ten services had the wrong price. We updated them to match exactly, and removed prices for services that don’t have a published price on the website. Check yours the same way.

For monthly services, start the description with “Monthly plan.” because the price field has no “per month” option.

8. Photos and Videos

  • Logo and cover photo that represent your brand.
  • Real photos of your work: finished projects, before-and-after shots, your products, your team at work.
  • For a service-area business, don’t upload photos that reveal a private home address, such as the outside of your house.
  • Add new photos regularly; a profile with recent photos looks active.

9. Reviews

  • Click Ask for reviews, copy your link and send it to happy customers on WhatsApp or email.
  • Never buy reviews, write them yourself, or offer discounts in exchange; Google removes them and can restrict your profile.
  • Reply to every review. Thank the customer and mention the service in a natural way.
  • For a bad review, reply politely, don’t argue, and offer to resolve it privately.

10. Posts

Publish one update a week: a service, a finished project, a useful tip, or an offer. Each post can have an image and a button (“Learn more”, “Call now”) linking to the right page on your website. Keep a simple monthly plan so you never run out of ideas.

11. Questions, Answers and Messages

  • Answer any questions people ask on your profile, and add your own common questions with clear answers.
  • If you turn on chat, reply quickly. Slow responses can lead Google to turn chat off.

12. Monthly Maintenance

Once a month:

  • Check whether Google or users suggested edits to your profile, and correct anything wrong.
  • Open Performance to see searches, calls, messages and website clicks.
  • Make sure your hours, prices and services still match your website.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Keywords or city names added to the business name.
  • Different phone numbers or names on the profile, website and social pages.
  • Choosing a category that doesn’t describe the business.
  • Prices that don’t match the website.
  • Stock photos, or photos that reveal a home address.
  • Setting up the profile and then never posting or replying to reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I optimize my Google Business Profile?

Complete every section: the right categories, a clear description, your service area or address, hours, contact details, every service with a description, real photos, and regular posts. Then keep collecting and replying to reviews.

Can I have a Google Business Profile without an address?

Yes. If you serve customers at their location or online, hide your address and set a service area. You still verify the business, but your address isn’t shown publicly.

Can I add keywords to my Google Business Profile?

Use the words customers search for naturally in your description, services and posts. Don’t add keywords to your business name; that breaks Google’s guidelines.

Why isn’t my Google Business Profile showing in search?

Common reasons are that the profile is new or not yet verified, the categories don’t match the search, the information is incomplete, or the searcher is too far from your service area. Completing this checklist fixes most of these.

How often should I post on Google Business Profile?

Once a week is a good, sustainable routine for a small business.

Is Google Business Profile optimization free?

Yes, you can do it all yourself for free. Agencies charge for doing the work and managing it every month.
